Brantwood Rink Open
Brantwood rink opening
We’re a couple days away from having skateable ice, says Louis Denis, rink co-coordinator. Key volunteers have stepped up. “We’re gaining on it!”. A photo of the skating rink at night shows the result of volunteers’ efforts.
Brantwood rink supervised hours are from 5pm to 9pm weekdays, and 12pm to 5pm on weekends. Per the recent Capital Ward bulletin, do’s and don’ts for users:
- Don’t use the rink if volunteers have recently flooded the rink, the ice is too soft for skating, or it’s posted as “closed.”.
- Avoid walking on the rink, as this is hazardous and damages the ice surface.
- Rink users should always wear a hockey helmet.
- Children under the age of 7 should be accompanied by a responsible person aged 14 and up.
- Keep all pets off the rinks.
- For the safety of users, hockey is not permitted on the part of the rink nearest the fieldhouse.
Take the time to thank the volunteers who dedicate their time to creating a rink in your community and lend a helping hand when possible. Specifically, the rink must be scraped before flooding each evening and a number of people are needed to shovel the loose snow off so that the flooding results in a smooth surface.
