Transportation and Infrastructure report: 2025-04

Submitted by Tom Scott, Chair

Transportation Master Plan – Alta Vista Transportation Corridor

  • Our Councillor announced that City staff managing the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Update would be recommending that the northern leg of the proposed four-lane commuter thoroughfare (from the current hospital link to the Nicholas access to the 417) be removed from the TMP Update now under consideration. COnsult links below for more information:

Greenfield-Main-Hawthorne (GMH) Reconstruction has resumed for 2025

  • GMH Reconstruction Project is now underway for its 2025 constriction season.
  • 1-way restrictions to North Main Street and Greenfield Avenue to the 417 westbound on ramp are now in force. Detours routes are now marked shut-down since the week before Christmas.
  • Further information and ongoing updates, including details of door-to-door handouts, can be found at the City’s GMH project web pages:
  • We have asked the GMH team to provide an update on how the process will unfold for volunteers among our neighbours for the City’s process for identifying locations for replacement trees on private property; that is, beyond the City’s right of way, within the GMH boundaries.
    • As reported last month, the aim is not only to replace trees that had to be removed during construction but also to enhance the Urban Canopy, especially after Emerald Ash Borer and Derecho impacts.

Files for continuing work this next month

  1. Lees Avenue pedestrian crossing concerns: As we continue to report, with detours again from King Edward, already in place on April 1st, the issue with pedestrian crossings along Lees Avenue, and notably individuals not at controlled crossings, remains an ongoing concern with the very much increased volume on Lees due to the Main/Greenfield one-way-direction restrictions.
  2. Rideau River pathways – active transportation: Old Railway Bridge Heritage Designation has not yet been updated since the last presentation by City staff members and their consultant.
