4. Chair’s Report – Kristine Houde for Bob Gordon 

  • Attended Ottawa Centre Provincial Candidates debate on Public Transit.
  • 70+ attendees. Conservative party representative not in attendance.

6. Capital Ward Report – Miles Krauter, Councillor’s Office

  • Thanks to everyone who helped and participated in Capital Ward Cup.
  • Centennial Blvd replanting consultation taking place on Zoom Feb 12. Link sent to residents of Centennial Blvd.
  • AVTC public consultation on Jan 29. 150 people attended and shared concerns. City staff gave presentation, said project was not being treated as a “fait accompli”, is considering multiple options, and said it’s possible it could be removed from transportation master plan TMP).
  • New Traffic cam installed on Main St. Some residents reported less speeding.
  • Deschâtelets Building – province has yet to provide a timeline for funding. School board submitted a funding request in 2022. Election has put hold on all decisions.
  • Integrated renewal streets of Rideau Garden upcoming. Construction slated for Spring 2026. Public info sessions expected Sept. 2025 – Sept. 2026. Walk will be organized with residents.
  • Winter maintenance – big need for snow removal in urban neighbourhoods. OOE residents are encouraged to keep reaching out to CIty – Call 311 to submit online report. Helps apply pressure to the winter removal team.
  • City wide issues: Landsdowne 2.0 for final vote; Tewin decision.
  • Follow ups: Greenfield Main Hawthorne (GMH) – two way traffic should be resumed, Transport plans for design assignment in 2025, follow up to adjust plans for residents.

7. Community Activities Group (CAG) report – Lee Jacobs

  • Camp registration day was on Feb 4. 300 transactions done. Sold out in 40 min. 10 weeks of camp at Brantwood. Will be hiring 17 staff, majority from OOE (as part of mandate to hire local).
  • New Programming coming, more for seniors
  • Moving from 1 FTE to 3 FTEs. More capacity for the community and organization.
  • SUP at Brantwood proposal. Putting forward proposal to CAG board, then will bring to OOECA. 
  • AGM in next two months. Date TBD. Encourage everyone to attend.

  • Winter Funday at Brantwood on Saturday 1-3pm. Activities for kids, including snow sculpting.

8. Provincial Candidates Debate Update – Gregg Whetton 

  • Ottawa Centre Debate, Thursday Feb 20 at 7-9pm at Glebe Community Centre, first come first serve. Will feature questions from the audience. Each CA can submit one question each. Debate will feature candidates of parties that have seats in house of commons (4 major parties). Event promotion through social media, Mainstreeter, Centretown Buzz.
  • Glebe Community Association asked OOECA for up to $250 for the event. Cost include: $100 for room rental, $700 sound system, $100 for printing and promotion. Hoping to offset costs from the room. Up to $250 from OOECA – not expected to be that much.
  • Looking for volunteers to help set up. Looking for 4-5 people from each CA. Contact Gregg Whetton or info@ottawaeast.ca
  • Will try and ensure there is reserved seating for attendees with mobility issues.
  • Will be broadcast on Rogers cable TV (channel 22). Broadcast will be available the following day to be viewed online.
  • 4 major candidates were invited. Three confirmed. Conservative representative has not confirmed.
  • Gregg to send request for questions suggested by the Board.
  • Motion to provide up to $250 to support the cost of room rental, sound system, and printing of promotional material for the provincial election candidates debate at the Glebe Community Centre on Feb 20, 2025.

Transportation and Infrastructure – Tom Scott

Transportation and Infrastructure report: GMH update, AVTC email exchange

  • MTO bridges moved to next EA phase (detailed design); Transportation Master Plan update; Greenfield/Main/Hawthorne construction set to start in May; Data request for Main St speed camera

Planning – Vacant (John Dance, acting Chair)

  • Planning report: 166 McGillivary/441 Echo, City response to OOECA comments on draft Zoning By-Law, Greystone Phase 4 Towns rezoning questions, FCA priorities
  • Minor variance Feb 19 requesting construction of 8-unit apartment building. Committee objects of transfer of lands and other variances. 
  • City response to draft zoning bylaw. Concerned about inadequate respect for OOE Secondary Plan.
  • Regional group requested rezoning for Four Court townhomes Phase 4. Concerned about rezoning. Were not aware of all the rezoning requests. John asked for meeting with city staff. Rezoning requested means townhomes of Grand Allee encroaching on view and large tree canopy.

Main, Greystone Village, Lees – Peter Tobin

  • Main, Greystone, Lees report: Vets on Main and convent site updates
  • Vets on Main has been open for 1 month. No update on Bar Burrito opening. Asking for an update on the convent site.

Lansdowne – Alexandra Gruca-Macaulay

  • Lansdowne report: North Side Stand info session update, Lansdowne 2024 annual report, OOECA submission and presentation to Finance and Corp. Svcs Committee
  • City council and finance committee met last week to talk about annual report. 4 CAs criticized. Ran $9.2M loss this past year.

Health and Safety – Georgia Blondon

FCA (Federation of Citizens’ Associations) – Ron Rose

  • No written report for February
  • FCA Board meet Feb 12. FCA has planning and housing committee, sent questionnaire to CAs for what priorities the planning and housing committee should focus on. OOECA recommendation to focus on rezoning bylaw 

Membership – Jayson MacLean

Parks and Greenspace – Vacant

  • No written report for February
  • Grande Allée adopt-a-park agreement signed with City.
  • OOECA contacted by person interested in approaching City with request to setup disc golf in Brantwood park.

SLOE (Sustainable Living Ottawa East) – Vacant
