Main Street Road Safety Audit

The City of Ottawa has recently completed the Main Street Road Safety Audit. Members of the OOECA undertook a walk-about on Main Street and provided feedback to city staff on the safety audit which can be found in the “Client Response” section. The OOECA’s feedback is also summarized in Appendix A of the report. The city’s follow-up actions are outlined in Appendix B.

The OOECA has concerns with the final safety audit. In particular, the OOECA has expressed an issue with the “wait and see” approach for accident and injury reports for the city to determine if observed infrastructure deficiencies should be improved. The OOECA also believes that the larger community should have been consulted earlier in the process. The OOECA will continue to advocate for improved safety along Main Street with city staff and our elected representatives.

The OOECA will also be closely reviewing the plans for the reconstruction of Hawthorne and Greenfield. Details on the project are available here.

The OOECA transportation committee will be meeting on Wednesday, December 5, at 7:00 pm at the Royal Oak on Echo and Hawthorne. If you have any concerns regarding the final safety audit, the plans for the reconstruction of Hawthorne and Greenfield, or the downtown 417 bridge replacement projects, please come to the meeting and share your concerns, or you may email your comments to tscot9401@rogers.com.
